How is jacquard fabric used?

Most textiles with intricate weave patterns are jacquard fabrics. While there are several different subtypes of this fabric, each type of jacquard is used for similar purposes. In contemporary times, jacquard is most commonly used to make curtains and drapes, but duvet covers featuring a jacquard weave are also relatively common.

Less commonly, textile manufacturers may use jacquard to create formal menswear or womenswear, including decorative dresses and patterned suits. Jacquard shirts and casual dresses are also common.

Other non-garment applications for jacquard include pillowcases and upholstery. Often used in high-end decorative furniture and less frequently on everyday sofas and chairs, jacquard adds an elegant touch to bland furniture. It is also much easier to make intricately woven tapestries using a jacquard loom.
